The Blenders: Don't Fuck Around With Love

Well, take a little advice from me
Play around with TNT
But baby, don't fuck around with love

Well, mess around with a hungry bear
Grab a tiger by the hair
But baby, don't fuck around with love

Never toy with emotions
Unless you enjoy big explosions

Well, when you say the words "I love you"
Just be sure each word is true
And baby, don't fuck around with love

Take a little advice from me
Play around with TNT
But baby, don't fuck around with love

Mess around with a hungry bear
Grab a tiger by his hair
But baby, don't fuck around with love

Never toy with deep emotions
Unless you enjoy big explosions

When you say the words "I love you"
Just be sure each word is true
But baby, don't fuck around with love

Take a little advice from me
Play around with TNT
Mess around with a hungry bear
Grab a tiger by the hair
When you say the words "I love you"
Just be sure each word is true
But baby, don't fuck around with love

Take a little advice from me
Play around with TNT
Mess around with a hungry bear
Grab a tiger by the hair
When you say the words "I love you"
Just be sure each word is true
But don't play around around with love

The Blenders (1948-1954)
Researching this singing group took a little effort. Much to my surprise, Wikipedia didn't have an article and to further confuse the issue, there have been several groups with this name over the years. In a nutshell, the group was formed in 1948 and disbanded in 1954. While they made several records for several different companies, they never really made it. Nevertheless, this little ditty from 1953 lives on in all its scandalous glory which is curious. According to all the black and white movies I saw from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, nobody ever swore. I thought the F word was invented somewhere around 1967 when I was 15 years old.

The Blenders By Marv Goldberg
Based on interviews with Abel DeCosta, Ollie Jones, & Raymond Johnson.
The Blenders only release on Jay-Dee, in August 1953, consisted of the final two sides that had been recorded for Joe Davis back in March: "You'll Never Be Mine Again" and "Don't Play Around With Love." At that same session, Davis had them record a raunchier version (entitled "Don't Fuck Around With Love"), which he planned to send to disc jockeys as an under-the-table release. After this side found its way onto a Kelway release in 1971, Davis himself released the song (on his Davis label) in 1973. I've always considered it a superior version musically, although the group seems unsure at times what lyrics to sing.

Wikipedia: Doo-wop
Doo-wop is a style of rhythm and blues which emerged in African American communities in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Baltimore, Newark, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Detroit, Washington D.C and Los Angeles in the 1940s, achieving mainstream popularity in the 1950s and early 1960s. Built upon vocal harmony, doo-wop was one of the most mainstream, pop-oriented R&B styles of the time. ... Doo-wop features vocal group harmony, nonsense syllables, a simple beat, sometimes little or no instrumentation, and simple music and lyrics.

Postscript
This was recorded in 1953 but I had never heard it before. Either the world is a really big place (How can I know everything?) or I've lived a sheltered life.

I ran across the song in the following video where it was used as background music. Mr. Neistat has some amusing and high quality videos. Check him out.
